Do you feel unsafe out in public? Are you concerned for your own safety and for your family members’? Well, the next team we interviewed might ease this concern for you.

 

To give a basic introduction, Safeloud is the final project of four students from School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. They managed to develop an application called Safeloud. 

 

The application is under-development stage and Safeloud is under incubation at the National Science and Technology Park. A bunch of students making it their mission to provide a call-to-action service to provide fast yet dependable security to its users. 

 

Now, assume a situation to better understand the process. Let’s say you are out on a walk and you find yourself in a dangerous situation. Maybe some people you don’t feel safe with. So, what you can do is to use this app. Just by pressing a button, you will be able to alert those close to you, physically and emotionally. And, you will send a simultaneous call for help to emergency services.

 

It’s the 21st century and we’ve all established how scary humans can be. The crime rate has reached a new peak in Pakistan. Leaving a dire need for proper and effective security measures. 

 

Such circumstances have led the citizens to take matters into their own hands, to try and create a safer world for others. Such noble efforts have shielded people from several menacing threats. 

 

Just like Safeloud, there are a couple other applications, providing similar services. Some example of such apps would be EyewatchSOS and igosafely. Created initially for women, these apps provide safety to all regardless of gender. 

 

While trying to create a safer environment yourself is a commendable effort, the main issue still lies with the government’s incapability and the people’s benightedness. 

 

The government and the people of this country need to do better. Getting a couple of degrees doesn’t improve someone’s character. Being considerate towards others is what does. And, the people of this century have lost empathy for others.

 

Other than that, another reason could be the faulty security system. And efficient system decreases the rate of daily reported cases. A system that provides safety to the victims and a judiciary that’s just.  They’re essential in maintaining security as well as providing law and order.

 

Our system has to do better. It needs to prove that the government can take strict initiatives if put in a situation like that.

 

Other than this, teachers, parents and guardians need to take responsibility of educating kids of not just the danger that lies outside, but also on how not to become one of the dangers outside.

 

We also wanted to share some tips for our followers, on how to protect themselves while alone. 

 

• Always plan your journey, send your live location to the people you trust and make sure you are aware of your surroundings.

• Don’t use earphones/headphones while outside.

• Ensure that your cellphone is charged and has enough credit to connect urgent calls

• Keep emergency numbers saved in your phone

• Stay away from dark streets and alleys

• If you feel any sense of insecurity, have your brother, father or a friend on call.

• Keep yourself well-equipped with self defense items such as pepper spray, flashlight, alarms etc

• Download a Call-for-Help application such as Safeloud to ensure that help reaches you, if there’s ever a time of need.

• Raise awareness, educate the people around you.
